Marene Elgershuizen is a life-long progressive, feminist and social-democrat. She is a historian, policy adviser on Feminist Foreign Policy and member of several supervisory and advisory boards. During her studies she mainly focused on New Wars, genocides, ethnic conflicts, post-conflict situations and the Responsibility to Protect. She has also done research into women Members of Parliament in the 1980s and their influence on Dutch political culture.

Within the Dutch Labour Party Marene Elgershuizen is an elected delegate to the Party of European Socialists (PES). There, her main topics of interest are Europe’s Common Foreign and Security Policy, International Trade and Development Aid. As Vice-President of Rainbow Rose, Marene wants to be a visible figure in the discussion entailing Europe’s Common Foreign and Security Policy and Ethical Leadership. An intersectional Feminist Foreign Policy is necessary to take the chance in shaping the CFSP in such a way that it promotes gender equality instead of harming women’s and LGBT-rights. In a time of conservative push-back, it is vital for the European Union to dust off its classical values promoting freedom and equality for all its citizens and in all its foreign relations and policies.

Marene conducts research into European Progressive Geopolitics for the Young Academics Network of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies in Brussels.
